Parent Information about Local Scholarships & Parent Report

March 14, 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Listed below you will find valuable information regarding your student’s upcoming graduation.  Please read all of the information included carefully.

Your senior student’s last days of high school are quickly approaching.  We will be meeting with seniors throughout the day on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

We will address future plans; explain and demonstrate the local scholarship application process; provide students with their most current transcripts for use when completing scholarships; complete a graduation survey; and discuss graduation, diplomas, the senior group picture, and other end-of-the-year housekeeping details.

Students can access the website below through any school computer as well as from home.  Clicking on the scholarship’s name will allow you to download each local scholarship.  The scholarship application will then be found on the computer’s desktop.   Applications can be printed and completed outside of the school.

www.district145.org - Click on Schools, Click on High School, Click on Counseling Office, Links are listed at

the bottom.  Pick WHS Local Scholarships (Scholarships for additional opportunities.  These deadlines vary.)

The local scholarships will be available online at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2019 through 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2019.

All WHS local scholarship applications (with the exceptions listed on the application) are expected to be personally handed to Teresa in the Counseling Office.   The student must hand all applications directly to Teresa.  Scholarships are to be paper

clipped together if more than one page.  Scholarships are not to be stapled, or placed in envelopes or binders.

All WHS local scholarships are due by 3:00 P.M. ON THURSDAY, APRIL 25, 2019 unless otherwise specified directly on applications or at this website.  NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Scholarship winners will bel posted on the counseling website on graduation practice day under the 2019 WHS LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS link.  Seniors will be reminded of this announcement at graduation practice.

The student must bring to the Counseling Office by 12:00 p.m. on Thursday May 30, 2019 the following:

  1. The thank you letter along with stamps for the envelopes that will be sent to the scholarship donor(s).  Donor addresses will be available in the Counseling Office.  The Counseling Office will place the thank you note in the outgoing mail.
  2. Acceptance letter from the college indicated on the Parent Report (or if available, a print out of his/her 1st semester courses) verifying college enrollment.
  3. The student will need to provide his/her newly assigned College Student ID# and/or the last four digits of his/her Social Security number to ensure the scholarship is applied to the correct student by the institution.
  4. The student’s signature is required prior to the check being issued.  Parent signatures are NOT accepted.  If the student does not sign for the scholarship award(s) and/or does not provide the above information by 12:00 p.m.  on Thursday, May 30, 2019 he/she will forfeit the scholarship award(s).  If he/she does not attend college in the fall, the scholarship is forfeited as well.

Checks will be cut to the college or university ONLY, following graduation.  The check will be mailed directly to the student’s college or university.  All requirements above must be met in order for the check to be mailed.

Students should contact their college’s financial aid office to confirm that the scholarship money has been applied to their tuition or other college expenses, as determined by the college.

In order to provide the most accurate information for the graduation program and ceremony, we request that you complete the Parent Report. The report asks you to:

1) Identify your student’s future plans.

2) Specify his or her next place of study or employment.

3) List any scholarships that he or she has been selected to receive (please include the college name along with

confirmation from the college who is awarding the scholarship).

4) Sign your name.

The graduation program will include all verified scholarship names (those that have provided confirmation from the college or provider of the scholarship), but will exclude scholarship amounts.  If verification is not provided a reported scholarship will not be listed or announced.  Local scholarships on our website do not need to be reported.  However, you should report any local scholarship not on our local scholarship list.

NOTE:  Please list scholarships only.  Grants will not be included in the program or ceremony.

The Parent Report Form is included if you are receiving this information via US Mail.  If you are receiving this as an e-mail there are two different ways to access the form:

A Word Document or a PDF is attached for you to download.  Both forms can be completed and saved to your computer.

Please return the form by:

*Emailing to Teresa Erdkamp at teresa.erdkamp@district145.org

*Having your student return to Teresa in the Counseling Office

*Mail to:            Teresa Erdkamp

Please return the Parent Report by Friday, April 26, 2019.   Your help in this matter is appreciated.

NOTE: As additional scholarships are awarded on or beyond Friday, April 26, 2019, we request that you inform Teresa in the Counseling Office, providing the scholarship’s full name and amount along with confirmation from the college or provider awarding the scholarship.  Announcements made after Wednesday, May 8, 2019 will not be included in the program but may be announced at graduation.

We encourage all students planning to attend any two-year or four-year college or training program to apply for scholarships that match individual needs, areas of study, and strengths.

Soon your senior will receive his or her high school diploma.  Please let us know if we can be of assistance along the way.
