Read Across America Day @ Hamlow Elementary

by Rodney Engel

March 02, 2011

Read Across America Day

Read Across America Day was started in 1997 to motivate students and get them excited about reading. Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Honoring Dr. Seuss, Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss' birthday.

Hamlow Elementary students, staff, and community celebrated Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’ Birthday with a Character Parade and guest readers in each classroom. Students and staff dressed as a character from their favorite book to celebrate literacy and Dr. Seuss’. This year's Grand Marshal of our parade was Grandpa Ellis. Grandpa Ellis volunteers daily during Reading Club.  Following the parade numerous guest readers joined our classrooms reading their favorite books to the students at Hamlow Elementary.
