District Update 4-5-11

The purpose of this update is to share financial information in the district as well as the actions taken at the board of education meeting.

The following is a summary of the April 4 regular meeting, provided from the superintendent’s perspective.

After convening the regular meeting, Mrs. Heusman, Eagle principal, introduced two teachers, Roxanne Dietz and Tami Gress. They explained how they co-teach math and also talked about the math problem solving process they have implemented, with student interviews included on a video they presented.

Click here for a financial update that includes projected state aid dollars for next year. The superintendent shared information regarding pending legislation; talked about state aid for 2011-12; possible bond refinancing; student option enrollment numbers for next year.

Board member Bruce Sedivy reported on the performance and assessment committee meeting, including district accreditation and professional development. 

Board member Alan Retzlaff reported on the buildings and grounds committee meeting, including bus purchase specifications; lease agreement for the Walton ball field; the door replacement project is progressing, with the low bid accepted at the March 28th special meeting. The project was awarded to Sandquist Construction for $198,794.

As part of the consent agenda, the board accepted the resignation of Amanda Olson, WHS Ag teacher, effective at the end of the school year; recognized the retirement of Priscilla Sharpnack, WMS food service. Reassignments for 2011-12 are Erin Abel, WHS Spanish teacher, reassigned to WIS/Hamlow Guidance Counselor; Dana Dalton, WIS 4th grade, reassigned to teach 5th grade at WIS.

The Board of Education took action to:

  1. Approve the bid to purchase a riding lawn mower.
  2. Approve the proxy statement for the Nebraska Liquid Asset Fund.

The Board discussed:

  1. Copy machine lease proposal is expected to be presented at the May meeting.
  2. Planning and development committee meeting.

Regular board meeting scheduled May 2, 2011.
