March 2012 Board of Education Meeting

The Board of Education met on March 5 at the district office. During each monthly meeting a presentation is given. Mr. Craig Patzel, Waverly Intermediate School Principal, presented a nine minute video about WIS that was created by teaching staff. The video provided many student and staff photos regarding student learning and the mission at W.I.S. Teachers from the school improvement team answered questions from board members.

Written reports provided to the Board include:

Eagle Elementary Hamlow Elementary W.I.S.
Middle School High School Special Education

Reports were given from the Building/Grounds/Transportation Committee and the Policy committee, as well as individual reports from board members that attended the Labor Relations Conference, and Foundation for Education quarterly meeting.

Waverly High School student explained to the Board how students are working with staff to create a culture at WHS. She emphasized that often times the positives are over looked, and she and her peer group requested to present to the Board of Education because they want to publicize the positives at WHS. Click here to read the outline presented.

Mr. Scott Blum, Director of Learning, presented information regarding Social Studies curriculum. He explained the process used to identify a curriculum framework, and the process to select curriculum textbooks and resources. At every building, teachers are piloting new resources that include "online" materials for students, rather than only using textbooks.
