Class Competitions

April 13, 2012

Throughout this school year, each high school grade (9th through 12th) participated in a healthy competition to 1) increase school spirit, involvement in school activities, and students’ grade point averages and attendance; 2) to promote community service cooperation through various projects; and 3) to foster youth leadership throughout our student population.  Through many events and projects, students improved their work ethic, positive leadership, teamwork, and organization.

This first year of the competition was a success.  Students raised more than two thousand dollars through Penny Wars, the Fall Formal, Pie-in-the-Face, and other events supporting students and families-in-need in our district.  Students fed and clothed many in the Waverly and Eagle areas through the Community Care Drive, Shoe Drive, and other events.  The competition increased school pride through various projects that enhanced the look of the high school building and grounds.   The competition also led to students attending Homecoming, dressing up for spirit week, and attending rallies in each district building more than in previous years.

Each class positively contributed to the competition.  The 9th grade class won the fewest tardies and highest grade point average portion of the competition.  The 10th grade class won dance attendance for Homecoming, Fall Formal, and Snowball, as well as Spirit Week and Club Week dress and Penny Wars.  The 11th grade class tied for first place with pod decoration and clean up and placed first in the fall parking lot clean up and free-throw contest.  The Class of 2012 (the 12th graders) won Pie-in-the-Face, the Shoe Drive, the Community Care Drive,  and the spring parking lot clean up.

Now for the final class standings of the year.  In 4th place with 4525 points was the freshmen class.  In 3rd place with 4700 points was the junior class.  In 2nd place with 5225 points was the sophomore class.  And in 1st place, the senior class.  Congratulations seniors!!!   The senior class will be spending an educational day at the Henry Doorly Zoo on Wednesday, May 2nd to celebrate all that they accomplished this year through the competition.

We are dedicated to building leadership and character in our students.  The competition was a great way to further support our students in becoming all that they can be as students, community members, and human beings.
