WMS students attend E-Week at UNO

April 18, 2012

WMS Students attended E-Week at UNL on April 13th.  E-Week is an annual open house that celebrates engineering students and their accomplishments.  During the open house, WMS students saw first-hand what engineering students researched and designed while attending UNL.  WMS students participated in tours, which led them through various engineering fields so they could see exactly what engineering students study at UNL.  After lunch, many students participated in the hands-on activities.  Throughout all of the activities, students had to problem solve, work in teams, design mini projects and then test them.

The activities included:

Egg Drop

Students designed a structure that kept an egg safe when dropped from an elevated height.

Ping Pong Ball Launcher

Students used rubber bands, straws, a mousetrap, a can of pop for the base and a spoon to build a device that launched a ping pong ball.

Tower Building

Students used spaghetti noodles and marshmallows to build the tallest tower that was free standing for one minute.

Wind Turbine Competition

Students made turbine propellers and tested them using a fan and instruments to measure for efficiency.
