District News Update 8-7-12

It is almost time to start another school year! District 145 teaching staff will officially return on Friday, August 10 to finalize preparations for the 2012-13 school year.

Several facility projects are making progress, and we will be ready to start the school year. The District 145 Board of Education received an update during their meeting held Monday evening, August 6. 

August 2012 Board of Education Meeting

The Board of Education met on August 6 at the District Office. During each monthly meeting a presentation is given. Mr. Scott Blum, Director of Learning, gave an update on school improvement and planned activities for this school year. 

Mr. Gary Cooper, Waverly Middle School Principal, was welcomed to the district. Mr. Lucas Bingham, Director of Technology, provided a letter of introduction. Click here to view the letter.

Committee reports were given from the Building/Grounds/Transportation; Policy; Planning and Development.  

President Grosshans stated his appreciation for the donation from Horizon Bank that will pay the annual fee ($3895) for the school district's alert system.

The Board took action to:

1. Set athletic admission prices.

2. Set the daily substitute teacher rate.

3. Approve the procedure to comply with tax exempt financing regulations.

4. Approve a contract with Sandquist Construction for work at Waverly High School. This work was related to replacing insulation and drywall in classrooms effected by the moisture issue.

5. Approve the Negotiated Agreement with the Waverly Education Association.

6. Approve compensation as recommended by the Planning and Development committee for classified staff members.

The Board discussed:

A. State Aid Formula Review Committee that includes Business Manager Mr. Robin Hoffman as a participant. The meetings involved school district officials across the state, as well as representatives from the Nebraska Department of Education and the State Legislature. 

B. Facility projects in the district, including HVAC at elementary schools and Waverly High School. It was discussed that the district facility plan should be updated to reflect current and future needs. 

C. District climate survey that was completed last spring. Board discussed how the results will be shared with staff. 

D. Presentation schedule for monthly meetings

E. Future meetings and upcoming events.
