Erickson Receives Honor Award

Stan Erickson has taught physical education at Eagle Elementary and Hamlow Elementary in District 145 - Waverly Public Schools District for 38 years. During its annual conference on Tuesday, November 5, 2013,  Mr. Erickson was was the recipient of the Honor Award by the Nebraska Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. The Honor Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated meritorious contributions, service and leadership in the profession that have significantly benefited the areas of health, physical education, recreation and/or dance within the state of Nebraska. This is the second time he has earned this award, the first time was in 1993.

He has served on the NAHPERD Executive Board continuously for 18 years in numerous roles, recently as President. Stan has represented Physical Education and Health teachers from across the state in Washington D.C. working with U.S. Senators and U.S. Congressman, and at the Nebraska State Capitol working with State Legislators on issues of Physical Education, Health and Obesity. He has been a presenter at schools, colleges, state conferences, Central District Conferences and at AAHPERD National Conventions.

Stan has also been active with Jump Rope for Heart and hoops for Heart as a coordinator for 35 years. He was the leader of the first Nebraska Jump Rope for Heart Demonstration Jump Rope Team, in which he toured with students to give demonstrations for 15 years.

He has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Nebraska Teacher Achievement Award For Excellence in Classroom Teaching from the Peter Kiewit Foundation, NAHPERD’s Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award, and NAHPERD’s Outstanding Physical Education Program Award. He has received the Governors Health Council Outstanding Physical Education Program Award, American Heart Association Outstanding School Award and the American Heart Association Passion Award. Stan has also received recognition from the Nebraska Association of School Boards and has been presented a Lifetime membership from NAHPERD.
