School is back in session for 2014!

The newest members of the Waverly High School Academic Wall of Fame are Chandler Haist for scoring a 33 on the ACT, and Malorie Geiler - she scored a 32 on the ACT! Congratulations!

We are glad to have all students back in school after the winter break. Looking back over the first semester, there were many accomplishments to celebrate. We are looking forward to continuing the tradition of excellence in 2014!

January 2014 Board of Education Meeting

The Board of Education met on January 6. As part of the annual reorganization meeting, the board elected officers for 2014.  Bruce Sedivy as President,  Andy Grosshans as Vice President,  Cheryl Landon as Treasurer and Alan Retzlaff as Secretary.

During each monthly meeting a presentation is given. Mr. Ross Ricenbaw, Waverly Middle School Principal, presented information regarding curriculum and instruction actions that are occurring to improve student academic achievement at Waverly Middle School. He also shared how the middle school promotes and recognizes student success.

 The superintendent reported on health care regulations and legislative issues.

Committee reports were given. It was noted that the duct work in the gym and commons area at the middle school was repainted over break, as well as several other maintenance projects. The Performance and Assessment committee reported on math curriculum modifications that have been identified at Waverly High School for 2014-15, and continuing the Career and Technical Education process that is underway at Waverly High School. 

The Board action included:

1. Reaffirm policy 8260 - Board Member Code of Ethics and Protocols

2. Approve a copy machine lease at Waverly High School to replace the copy machine in the media center. The newer machine will be more efficient, and the new agreement will save several thousand dollars each year over the existing lease.

3. Authorize the superintendent to pursue an agreement with a company that will provide all equipment, materials, and installation of an LED message board sign at Waverly High School, at no cost to the district, and to seek approval by the City of Waverly Board of Adjustments.

4. Approve the 2014-15 negotiated agreement with the Waverly Education Association.

The Board discussed district facility items, the WHS Activity Director/Assistant Principal job description, superintendent goals, board member vacancy in Ward III, a joint meeting with the Waverly City Council, 2014 budget calendar, and board committee assignments.

Before adjourning the meeting, the board discussed upcoming activities and committee meetings. The next regular meeting will be February 3 at the district office in Waverly.
