Nebraska State Board of Education Awards Grants to District 145

June 10, 2015

The Nebraska State Board of Education took action at their June 2015 meeting to approve two separate grants for School District #145 - Waverly. Eagle Elementary is in the process of starting an early childhood education program for the 2015-16 school year, and has been awarded $75,000 by the state to help support its implementation. The grant requires the school district to enlist partnerships for the program, as well as make a financial commitment by the school district to match the grant. We are appreciative of the opportunity to receive a grant from the Nebraska Department of Education because it will allow us to provide additional services for our students. Parents interested in enrolling their child in the program may contact Eagle Elementary for more information.

For the third consecutive year, we have been awarded a reVision grant through NDE. This will allow us to continue the process at Waverly middle school and high school in our career and technical education programs. As part of the grant from 2014-15 we were able to identify a health career pathway as a priority at Waverly high school and approximately 100 students have registered to participate, starting this fall. The NDE grant allocates nearly $50,000 to continue professional development with staff and identify additional ways for us to help students become college and career ready. We are excited to continue our partnership with NDE as we utilize resources to examine the high demand, high skill, and high wage career opportunities in Nebraska.
