WMS Students Look at Career Options

Students in eighth grade have a chance to take a career class that allows the them to explore careers that are found in the state of Nebraska and beyond.  During the class, students build a schema for understanding and classifying career options using the Nebraska Career Education Model. Within this model, students explore how education, interests, and experiences relate to career options. Students also explore key issues, trends, and innovations that influence, or change, the career landscape as a whole. In addition, students use Career Clusters to explore one or two broad sectors of career interest.  The curriculum for the course, Engage!, works in coordination with the Nebraska career model. For more information on the curriculum, see the following link:

“It’s fun to look at our interests and how we can relate that to a potential career that we might want to do for the rest of our lives,” stated one student in the class.

“It’s amazing to reflect on how our careers change from when we are little to right now in our state of our lives,” offered another student.

Students explore what it really means to be career-ready. They consider the role their individual strengths, talents, education, experiences, and interests play in planning for the future and making purposeful choices.
