TeamMates is a school based adult to student mentoring program. This program provides a young person with support, friendship, and a positive example. The mentor and student meet one time a week at the school during the school day. Multiple scholarship opportunities are available for each student who graduates high school as a TeamMate. The purpose is to help young people reach their full potential. Matches meet on the school grounds, during the school day. Adult mentors go through a solid screening and background check process, along with training to ensure the safety and integrity of the program. Our school district started last year with the 6th grade class and have 30 matches continuing this school year. The district is continuing to offer this program to ALL incoming 6th grade students.
TeamMates is a strengths based organization. Strength based relationships have a profound impact on student development and performance. Through the Gallup strengths partnership, mentors and mentees can better understand and maximize the unique human potential that each person brings to their roles in school and life. Students who benefit most from having a TeamMates mentor:
Have grades in the A-B-C-D range
Have a positive attitude or attitude that is ready for a mentor to help transform the negative into positive
Are polite and respectful to adults and have the skills to build a relationship
Is someone YOU would enjoy spending an hour a week with
Is someone who will benefit from a positive role model (who doesn’t need this?!)
Has post graduation plans/dreams or someone who needs encouragement to pursue dreams
