Waverly High School is proud to recognize Anthony Harms, who has been named a 2027 SHAPE Nebraska Teacher of the Year in High School Strength and Conditioning. Harms received this honor during the 2026 SHAPE Nebraska’s annual awards ceremony on Sunday, November 1 in Kearney.

The award recognizes outstanding educators who create meaningful learning experiences, use assessment to guide instruction, and demonstrate leadership within their schools and communities.

At Waverly High School, Harms has developed a year-round strength and conditioning program that goes beyond athletic performance. His program emphasizes building strength, developing confidence, and teaching safe, effective training habits. Harms' impact on Waverly athletics and its students is evident through the accomplishments of the programs and individuals he has helped develop over the years. According to SHAPE Nebraska President Kathy Burney, "Anthony has helped more than 100 individual state champions and All-State honorees, in addition to numerous team state championships."

Congratulations to Coach Anthony Harms on this well-deserved recognition! Waverly High School and District 145 are fortunate to have an educator who makes such a positive impact on our students, athletic programs, and community!
