Phase Two Construction Projects

November 2016: Phase 2 construction projects are wrapped up except for a few items that are being addressed as part of the final punch list. The surface under the playground equipment at Hamlow Elementary had to be redone last month and the rubber surface fall zone was installed. Students have been enjoying the full use of the playground area. Secure entrances and the upgraded video surveillance systems are operating. The entrances at WHS are finished. Furniture at Waverly High School media center and two pod areas have been installed, along with new office furniture at Hamlow Elementary. Details of the Phase 3 planning for Waverly Intermediate School upgrades are in progress.

August 2016: As of August 2, the south parking lot at WHS is close to 90% complete. Concrete has been poured in Viking Stadium and the only remaining location to pour is the segment from Amberly Road to the MS entrance. Then the concrete needs to cure, get sealed and striping will be added. Carpet has been installed at WHS in classrooms, pod areas, media center, offices, music rooms and auditorium. New doors have been installed in the HS science rooms and storage areas have been added where some of the student lockers were removed in the pod areas. Security camera installation is nearing completion and network cabling is closer to completion. Exterior doors at WHS are in the process of being replaced and the exterior entrance areas at the north and south entrances have been painted. The HS Band room is still awaiting arrival of new storage cabinets but flooring has been replaced. Flooring is nearing completion at Hamlow Elementary, lighting upgrades are nearly complete, the gym and stage floor has been replaced, and classroom wall coverings are installed. The administrative office has been painted and a restroom is being remodeled for ADA accessibility. The student restrooms have new lights, tile walls and flooring are being installed and new fixtures are being set. Lighting in the restrooms has been replaced. Flooring in the art room has been replaced and network cabling is still being installed, along with security cameras. The playground concrete has been poured and we are waiting for the rubber playground surface until temperatures are cool enough for several days (under 90 degrees) to install the material.

July 2016: As of Juy 12th, the south parking lot at Waverly high school has been completely been removed from the east entrance at Cannongate and Amberly Road to 134th street. The southwest parking lot drive entrance/exit has been realigned to match with Dover Street. Concrete has been poured on the west half of the parking lot, and sidewalks. Concrete and asphalt has been removed from in front of the grandstand and plaza area in Viking stadium. Some fencing inside Viking stadium has been removed. New concrete around the concession building has been poured, and other areas in the plaza are getting ready for more concrete. The eastern half of the parking lot is expected to be complete at the start of August, to provide time for the concrete to cure, and striping to occur. Much of the schedule at this point depends upon the weather as heavy rainfall can cause significant delays. Inside Waverly high school, all classrooms in pods 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, as well as the media center, administrative offices, auditorium, and music rooms had carpet removed. New carpet has been installed in the majority of these rooms. The science classrooms have all had door frames installed to enclose these areas as part of increased safety measures, and doors have been added to the science rooms to separate them from each of the pods. Over 18 miles of fiber optic cabling have been installed in the ceiling at WHS. Canopy covers on the exterior of the building have been removed and the steel frames are being painted before the new covering is installed. Computer network and infrastructure continues to make progress. The HS Band room is awaiting arrival of new storage cabinets.

Hamlow Elementary asphalt playground has been removed and replaced by concrete. The surface under the playground equipment is ready for concrete to be poured after excavation of dirt and about a foot of woodchips that had been under the playground equipment. There will be a new rubber surface. The gym and stage floor has been removed, four sets of student restrooms have been demolished, administrative office area flooring and windows have been removed, tack wall surfaces in classrooms have been removed, and the classroom space used by the Waverly Community Pre-School has been completely demolished. From this demolition there are signs of new plumbing, new lighting, fresh coat of paint in the gym, and preparations to put all of these spaces back into order.

The network cabling installation at Eagle Elementary, Hamlow Elementary, W.I.S. and WHS is nearing completion. By the end of the July we will be installing new servers, switches, and other hardware to bring the network back to life.

May 2016: Waverly High School parking lot and Viking stadium asphalt and concrete removal started in the middle of May and is progressing. WHS furniture has been removed from classrooms, carpet is being removed, and some computer equipment has been moved to WMS. Network cabling is being pulled out of the ceilings to make way for new network cabling that will greatly increase the network bandwidth. Hamlow Elementary playground asphalt has been removed. Fixtures in restrooms at Hamlow Elementary have been removed and block walls are being demolished. Floor tile at Hamlow has been removed from the stage as well as gym floor in preparation for new flooring. Click here for construction update article from May 4, 2016 regarding project details.
